Translucent City

Wind can be heard blowing through a bamboo forest. Sparkling light shows Chinese landscapes painted on the walls. The sound of a new city rises, surrounding the hall; passing spaceship traffic, the click of mahjong, a tea house. Projection illuminates a city hanging in the air above our heads, like clouds. Waves of light shimmer in the thousands of up-turned towers, silver and gold. Views of a future Chengdu appear in eight LED screens positioned on either side of the hall; half remembered half imagined. The city is transformed into a forest of flowers, spreading to fill the ceiling and walls in gorgeous colours, reflected infinitely in a mirrored floor.
