Extra Dream of the Red Chamber is a new kun opera adaptation of Cao Xueqin’s classic story Dream of the Red Chamber. The production premiered on August 3rd 2017 at the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall.
This new version portrays the tragic life of Xue Baochai, from a modern perspective. The opera begins with the wedding of Xue Baochai’s and Jia Baoyu, and ends with a fictional encounter twenty years later.
Award-winning actress Shen Yili and talented young actor Hu Weilu lead the cast.
