Mirror Garden
Date: May 31 – September 7, 2025
location: Comprehensive Exhibition Hall, 1st Floor, Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning
An experience of the Mirror Garden: time overlaps. In a world of mutual reflections, we trace our own marks. Walking at the core of our own time—how much can we see? Time is passing by, moment by moment. Let us together embark on a journey through multi-dimensional time.
The "Mirror Garden" at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning: a future laboratory where time is "tightened," and the narrative unfolds around the interweaving of "myth—reality—human—cosmos." At the end of the exhibition, a "submission box" invites visitors to draw their own "spiritual DNA," returning the right of interpretation to the viewers themselves, thus completing an open spiritual ritual.
This Shenzhen exhibition leans toward a global context, with the theme of "the intertwining of the virtual and the real," constructing a "Mirror Garden" that transcends time and space. The spatial structure revolves around the core image of "Lili," creating parallel worlds of "real time" and "mythological dimensions" through giant installations (the 4.5-meter-tall "Big Lili"), the AIGC film The Courier, and other media.
Rejecting the linear display of traditional museums, the exhibition adopts an open, "laboratory"-like structure, encouraging viewers to explore freely within the "passage between dreams and reality." Tim Yip emphasizes "feeling out the space as if composing poetry," using a subtractive approach to retain only the "most essential rhythm." This process of "iteration and subtraction" aligns with Shenzhen's identity as a city of technology, highlighting the interaction between art, AI, and virtual reality.
Lili's wandering across time and space breaks through the linear conception of time, exploring the duality of identity through the concept of "zero time" and responding to the spiritual crises of the technological age. "Primordial desire" is the starting point of Tim Yip's spiritual exploration.
